Pratt Lecture 2018: George Elliott Clarke

Memorial University, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Department of English invite you to join us for the 2018 Pratt Lecture, given this year by celebrated poet and critic George Elliott Clarke.
Canada’s 7^th Parliamentary Poet Laureate, the prodigiously talented Clarke is one of Canada’s most influential writers. He has published over twenty books in a variety of genres, from poetry collections and “verse novels,” such as Whylah Falls and the Governor-General-award-winning Execution Poems, to plays like Beatrice Chancy, to novels like George and Rue, and, most recently, The Motorcyclist. His Lecture will explore the national vision of the Newfoundland-born poet E. J. Pratt as expressed in such works as Brébeuf and His Brethren and Towards the Last Spike.
The Pratt Lecture is the oldest public lecture at Memorial University, founded in 1967 in honour of the Newfoundland-born poet E. J. Pratt.
